Judith Hyde Richarson

8 Forest Creek Drive

Stittsville, Ontario, Canada K25IL6

After high school, Judith worked for Bell Telephone, first in engineering as a draftsman and then in public relations. In 1963 she marries a Canadian Naval Officer and moved to Nova Scotia where she hosted a kids TV program. They were posted to Ottawa and she went to work as a cartographer for an aerial survey company and took flying lessons. They had two overseas postings, one to England for two years and one to Turkey for 3 years. Her husband retired in 1984 and they bought a boat in England, crossed the English Channel and sailed through the French canals to Spain. They spent 5 years sailing around the Mediterranean and then decided to sail it home. Made the crossing in the winter of 1989 from the Canary Islands to Barbados. Then spent another several years sailing around the Islands and cruising the inland waterway from Florida to Norfolk. They had only intended to spend 1 or 2 years doing this but ended up living on board for 10 years. A wonderful life! In 1995 they sold the boat and built the first house they have ever owned, in Stittsville, a small town outside of Ottawa. When living in Ottawa earlier, she spent 12 or 13 years as a Red Cross Corp volunteer and later worked as a volunteer for the Civic Hospital Aux helping to run the flower shop. She now volunteers at the local library and plays the organ for services at Granite Ridge Long Term Care Facility. They never had any children but have about 15 nieces and nephews and 11 or more great nieces and nephews to keep them busy. Judith loves to read, crochet and play the organ. After an extremely active life they are happy to live quietly and only travel to visit relatives or friends.

After graduation I had several office jobs and worked until June, l963.   On June 21, 1959 Bill Cathers and I were married.   We have 4 children.

Brian was born 7/17/1963 in Atlanta, Ga. while Bill was serving in the Army at Fort McPherson.   They were fun filled days.   Pamela (Pam) was born in the Doylestown Hospital on Belmont Ave., 11/10/1965 during the East Coast Black Out.   David was born in the Doylestown Hospital 3 weeks early on 7/16/1969 due to effects of the RH factor. All turned out well. Glen was born in Doylestown on 11/6/1971 without any problems.

For 17 years I was a stay at home mom.   Like all other parents with active children, I spent much time transporting them to their activities as well as doing normal household chores.   During our 24 th year of marriage, Bill and I separated and later divorced.   I had no working skills at that time in my life and working was difficult.   I had many jobs and many failures until I became a cleaning person, which I did for nine years.

Bill and I have 7 grandchildren.   Pam has 3 boys and 2 girls and David has 2 boys.

In 1992 I was privileged to go on a tour to Israel.   I found it interesting and educational. We had a guide who knew where to take us to keep us out of harms way.

Upon retiring in Nov.2004, I sold my apartment condo to Brian and moved in with Glen and his wife Alyssa.   The move proved to be a blessing for all.   I spend much time with Pam and her family.   It is becoming a home away from home, but I'm always glad to return to Lehighton.   Last summer I had to privilege of going to Hawaii for 2 ½ months.   David is in the Army stationed on Oahu.   I enjoyed Hawaii immensely.   It was hard to leave the beauty and inviting climate and children to come back to the Mainland.   However it was good to see Glen and Alyssa again.

After graduation I went active duty with the Marines and served at Camp Lejeune, NC., and at headquarters Marine Corps in Arlington, Va. as a Printer/Photo Lithographer until discharge in 1962. From 1962 until 1974 I worked in civil service as an Airframes sheet metal mechanic and Assistant Public works supervisor at NAS Quonset Point, Rhode Island. During this time I also worked as a Printer/Lithographer and a Department of Defense Police Officer at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. In 1982 I re-enlisted in the Army National Guard Reserve and was stationed in Rhode Island and Washington State performing the duties of Military Police NCO, Communication specialist, Retention NCO, and Mess Sgt NCO trainer until retirement in 1997. My hobbies are martial arts instructor, American Indian Lore lectures (Member Iroquois Nation/Mohican tribe), swimming, bicycling, wood carving and leather crafts.
