Judith White Quinby

Judith W. Quinby of Doylestown died Friday, Dec. 22,2006, at University of Pennsylvania Hospital. She was 67.

She was the wife of Carroll R. "Pudge" Quinby.

Born May 18, 1939, in Philadelphia, Judy was the daughter of Madelyn Weston White of Doylestown and the late Earl White. She was raised on a farm in Chalfont and was in the first graduating class of Central Bucks High School in 1956. She continued to be active with her high school class by participating on the class reunion committee.

In addition, Judy had a great presence at Salem United Church of Christ, where she helped organize and provided crafts for the Christmas Craft Show every year and was on their Personnel Committee. Crafts, painting, and other artistic endeavors were a large part of Judy's life. Music was also important to Judy and she played the piano, guitar, and banjo. Her other love was traveling. She enjoyed exploring new places and always wanted to take the unfamiliar road.

The most important thing in her life was her family. Judy was passionate about being together for special occasions and holidays. She spent a significant amount of her time caring for her mother. She also enjoyed spending time with her three grandsons as often as possible. All of this while still working part time as a title searcher. She was employed most recently by Princeton Assurance and previously by Chelsea Title and Abstract.

Judy had a passion for life. In her own words, "I am truly blessed " this Christmas season. I understand what life is really about." She always thought of others before herself and had a positive influence on friends, family and her community. Her influence and contributions cannot be measured or expressed.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two sons, Brad J.Quinby and his wife, Kristine, of Pipersville and Adam R. Quinby and his wife, Linda, of Doylestown. Also surviving are three grandsons, Zachary, Samuel, and Corey Quinby, and a brother, David L White of Fortesque, N.J.

After graduation in June of 1956, I joined the Marine Corps and went off to Paris Island, S.C. I spent 6 months in Florida and Tennessee in Naval Training Command learning to be a Jet Engine mechanic, a year at Edenton, N.C. Marine Corps Auxiliary Air Station, a year in Japan & Okinawa and 2 months with MCB 5 off the coast of Laos.

After completing my tour with the Marine Corps in 1960. I went to work for Philadelphia Electric Co. (PECO). For the next 31 years, I worked as a lineman, electric work dispatcher, substation mechanic, substation operator and substation Forman in Eastern Division Transmission & Distribution Department.   My first 5 years with PECO were spent working out of the Doylestown Service Building as a lineman. In 1961, I met my future wife Mary Hockel (CB Class of 1957) and in May of 1962 we were married. 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 44 years later, we are still married. Our kids are spread out all over the country now and live in Pa., N.C. and California.   In 1966, I transferred to Warminster Service Building where I worked for another 7 years as a lineman. In 1972, I worked for a year as an electric work dispatcher and in 1973 I transferred to the Eastern Division Substation Department where I spent the next 18 years. In 1991, PECO offered an Early Retirement Package. It was a good deal. I   retired on June 1, 1991 @ age 53

In March of 1967, we were returning from a trip to Florida to see Mary's parents on Easter weekend and that experience altered the way we traveled from that time forward. We left Fort Lauderdale on a Thursday morning and had to drive all the way back to Pa. without finding a vacancy in a motel for the entire trip due to the Holiday traffic.   I told Mary that we might never see her parents again unless we had our own bed with us the next time we went to Florida. I had a pick-up truck at the time so I went out and bought a small slide-in camper. That was our first RV. 40 years later, we are still RVing. We are presently traveling in a 2001 35 ft. NEWMAR Mountain-Aire fifth wheel with 3 slide rooms which we pull with a 2000 Ford F-450 diesel dually crew cab pick-up truck. We sold our house in Pipersville, Pa. in 1994 and our summer house in south Jersey in 1997 and went ON THE ROAD full time from 1991 to 2005. We belonged to several membership camping clubs and we just moved every week or 2 from one campground to another. By doing this, we have been able to visit every State in the lower 48 as well as all of the. Provinces of Canada and have made return visits to many of our favorite places.

In March of 2002 we bought an RV lot in Davenport, Fl. It offers the best of both worlds as far as we are concerned. It is located just 21 miles from the Orlando Attractions, has a major Medical Center close by and has a Super Wal-Mart within 2 miles yet it is away from the heavy traffic of the Orlando / Kissimmee   area.

Since retiring in 1991 we have become very active in the NEWMAR KOUNTRY KLUB which is a Club exclusively for owners of NEWMAR RV's. Since 1992, we have held positions as Full Timers Chapter Eastern Directors and Florida State Directors. We have also hosted fourteen local, State, Regional and Special Event Rallies since then.

In October of 2004, I had by pass surgery and that prompted us to make an adjustment in our life style. In 2005, we put a 14' X 35' Park Model on our lot and in 2006 we added a 12' X 38' addition to it. We still have our fifth wheel and pickup truck but we don't live in it full time any more. My health is pretty good at this time and we still travel about 5 months a year.
