After attending Penn State for three years and getting an associate degree, I signed up in the Navy as a Naval Aviation Cadet. My pilot training took me to several fields in the Pensacola, Fl. area and advanced training at Corpus Christi, Texas. My first duty station was Patrol Squadron Eight at NAS Patuxent River, Md. During this time I was asked to be in the wedding of a college classmate. It was there that I met my wife Nancy. We were married in 1964 while I was in between duty assignments at Patrol Squadron 8 and Patrol Squadron 30. In January of 1967 I had the opportunity to fly for American Airlines. My first crew base was New York where I flew the B-707 and B-727. During this time we lived in Somerville, NJ and Flemington, NJ. In anticipation of retirement and seeking a slightly warmer climate, in 1992 I transferred to the Washington crew base and we moved to the Eastern shore of Maryland. In Washington I flew the B-727, B-757 and B-767. I reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 in 1999. We are comfortably situated in our retirement home here on the Eastern Shore. Nancy and I have one son, John, who lives not too far from us in Frederick, Md.

To: All my Classmates

50 Years ago, WOW!! While your all munching and cracking up laughing I’ll be there. “In my thoughts”

When my 2 daughters Tamela and Joyce, were growing up, I and their father Herbert, just were not able to attend reunions of other years. He was working a full time job, as well as 4 other part times, to make ends meet. As with all families, our time to get on with the pleasures of life were limited. The best of memory is the 5 th year reunion. We attended but didn’t stay long as I recall.

Being a volunteer fireman’s wife I was in the ladies auxiliary and rang off the alarm for the Chelsea Fire Department as Chief Muller. He- my ex., started to part time dispatch at the Alarm Headquarters in Poughkeepsie. So for 2 tears myself and another wife rang the alarms from our homes. Boy what a crazy house here. I’m racing in to answer it from outside. As I think back, I sure wish my body could do that running now. As a farm gal and he also a farm guy, we had a strong upbringing.

Our youngest daughter Joyce, takes care of champion show horses. She was in her first show when she was 13 years old and won a Blue Ribbon. This was with 4-H. Our eldest daughter Tamela is an executive secretary. She had a pony while she was living in our home in 1969-70. We kept the pony on Stonykill Farm- 1 mile from our house. She was born when we lived at the farm. For almost 4 tears, I thought Tammy would be the farm girl, but Joyce is. I must say I’m still the kid from Old Orchard Poultry Farm on old 611. “Butchie”

I always kept up with this house and gardening, vegetables to can and freeze. Enjoying the fruits of labor. Now I can hardly slice a tomato and make a sandwich without a struggle. All in all I’m so very Thankful, I lived a life to do so much. Other young children are never going to achieve normal life.

When you go for the luncheon at The Waterwheel Inn, I had my first job, working at 14 tears old as a Bus Girl for 2 years. My sister Shirley also and my sister Edna mae, worked for Mr. And Mrs. Krastein, the owners in the 40s and 50s. We didn’t have to walk far from our farm-Huh?

I keep saying to my friends in New York here, that I want to write a book Ha !Ha! The crazy stuff and fun we had as we grew up.

Our mom used to call us a bunch of upcountry Dutchhiemers. She used to take us to Philly to shop for shoes and material to get us ready for school each year. Going to Dyershill as 1 room school houses were where we attended, until good old CB. Oh, memories- some of you were there with me too! Huh!, at all three one room school houses-Mrs Burgstrom, Dyershill and Miss Myers and Mr.Gammon, Gardenville. Do you farm kids remember? CB here we come. Hope you enjoy the 50 th. I’m only 49 May 9 th, so I graduated in 1976-Huh!

Love to all, Thank you for your wonderful letters and cards and gifts, believe me , I’m so grateful to you all. Have fun XXXOOO.
